I'm always set for black and stumbled on this for clearance in a SMALL

http://cdnd.lystit.com/photos/2012/1...arge_flex.jpeg

ITs a canada goose como parka, originally retail for 1850 but 20% off so 1420. Yes its an authorized CG store.

Its still expensive but i missed the wool material from my peacoat and I thought this would be worth the investment and sell my Chateau.

Do you guys think the NAVY is a good looking color? Im generally black for outerwear but wonering what the trend is.

Thanks

PS - RFD wont let me upload pictures thats more then 44KB! How do people upload big pictures without an error? :(

grey market watches

So the watch I'm looking at retails for $560.00. grey market sites seem to list it between 2-350. Curious if anyone here has any good or more importantly bad experiences with grey market watch purchases? I know I lose the manufacturer's warranty but if that's all I'm risking it seems like a good idea.

Opinions?

Coloured laces for dress shoes and boots?

Lately while riding the subway on my commute I noticed that a lot of guys have started wearing coloured shoe laces on their wingtips, dress shoes and boots.

Sometimes they even have them matched to the colour of their socks.

Is this a good idea? Why or why not?

GEOX store - Return Policy for sale items ....

Apparently, GEOX stores have a policy where sale items cannot be returned for a store refund. (Unworn, in original box.)

The sales item can only be exchanged, or returned for a store credit. They don't tell you this when you make the purchase, it is on the fine print in the receipt.

This is all within their 14 day policy (which itself is rather short).

The normal policy in most retailers is all items can be returned whether purchased at original price or sale items.

So Geox actually being knowingly deceptive to their customers when it comes to sales items. No returns, no price protection ... they keep your money when you buy something on sale.

I wonder, if this sale item return policy was more publicized, would customers have 2nd thoughts about about buying a sale item at a Geox store. (Basically, all sales items are final sales ...)

Oh ... and even more Geox love ... the sales lady suggested, I sell the boots myself on-line, if I wanted "some" money back. (This from the affluent, Bayview Village location in Toronto.)

Watches: Swiss Mechanical/Automatic vs Japanese Quartz Movements

$

Been looking at a lot of watches recently... wanted to spend about a $1k to $2k for a daily wear, is that a bit too much?

What is your preference? Swiss or Quartz?

I believe the cost of the Swiss watches are tend to be in the movement of the watch and the quality of the craftsmanship. Rolex tends to have the highest quality/precise of Swiss ETA movements.

So when you guys actually buy a Swiss watch, how many of you guys actually even look into this ETA movement stuff and making sure it is actually Swiss standard? or just buy it for the brand? If I were to buy a Swiss watch, I would only buy the skeleton swiss watches, so I can see all the beautiful movements in a watch, because that would be the reason why I would buy the watch, is to see the craftsmanship... to see what I mean, check out Tissot T-complication.

I really love the quartz movement, and feel the technology is much more advance than the Swiss. I love the auto atomic timekeeping, auto world time adjustments, alarm clock, chronology, and perpetual dates.

However, doesn't seem like the Canadian market holds high end quartz watches.... I like the Citizen Attesa/Casio Oceanus/Seiko Brightz series, but they do not sell it in Canada, only in Japan.

Anyways, if you had, lets say a $5k budget, what watch would you get?

how to protect the face from the cold

it looks like this winter weather isnt going anywhere. apparently another vortex is coming this week. i heard friday.

for the most part i know how to dress but i never figured out how to protect the face. a ski mask could work but that's really ominous. i've seen pictures of a scarf wrapped around one's face but i've tried it and havent been able to do so. the other day i saw some dude on the street with something wrapped around just his face - didnt seem like a scarf per se as it didnt have two ends.

if anyone can help with this i'd be grateful.

oh also what would be a place for a decent winter jacket? i have a nice looking one but that's not sufficient in the cold. i want something warm but not too pricy (under $150) and i dont like woolen. the bay is kinda pricy, sportchek is the same. perhaps i jsut dont know where to get good winter gear from.

Men's Dress Boots for the Winter

Hey all,

I'm looking for dress boots that would get me through the snow, salt, and slush. Didn't want to hijack the other thread as I'm specifically looking for something more formal that would go well with suits. Considering the AE Fifth Streets, but they don't have the rubber soles in stock.

Any recommendations? Do you guys keep a pair of shoes at the office?

I'm looking for an M2M suit (and an alternative to Indochino).

Anyone have any experience with Surmesur? They're an M2M shirt/suit place, with a cool 3d body scanner.

They've gotten a lot of press but not many user reviews.

I went to the store at Jarvis and Queen and ordered a shirt from them to see how it fits. 3D scanner was very cool, seemed to grab all my measurements accurately.

Holts Hook up on Bloor

Hi Fellow RFD'ers,

After a year long maternity leave raising our daughter my wife is going back to a stressful job and it's getting her down. I thought I would cheer her up by getting her a new bag and wallet. I could get her a Michael Kors but everyone and their sister has one and I wanted to get her something a little diferent - Maybe Tory Burch or Marc Jacobs.

The problem is my budget is more Michael Kors than Tory Burch... :(

I know Holts employees get 50% off so I was hoping a kind Holts staffer would help me help someone who genuinely deserves it.

In the end I know I'll end up spending the little extra but if anyone has a hook up it would be appreciated. :)

I work downtown close to the Holts on Bloor.

Shoot me a PM if you're able to help - thx!

Actresses who wear Canada Goose Mystique (and others)

Recently, a female font on RFD wanted recommendations on a stylish yet warm down parka. I suggested the CG Mystique cause it's only 1 of 2 female models that are rated TEI 5, meaning -30C and below. Read this from CG site.

Quote:

Mystique Parka - Canada Goose has a long history in the world of cinema -- both in front of and behind the lens. So when an actress shooting in cold conditions challenged us to develop a full-length parka that would also look great when she went out at night, we were happy to respond with the Mystique Parka.
So I did a quick google check. Appears this jacket is a fav amongst actresses, hmm. $750 sporting life.

Pulled the trigger on the Canada Goose Como Parka....

So im sure alot of you regular RFDs seem a few of my threads and questions about Canada gooses premium branta collection coat, the como parka.

Was in the store the other week and noticed, and kinda not surprised, the como parka was still their in a SMALL.

I asked the guy if he would consider a discount for shits and giggles saying, oh tis near the end of the winter season etc etc and offered 20% off it.

It knocked it down around 1400 which is still expensive for any coat, but i tried it on again and decided to give it a shot and he even said a 14 day return policy for the chance i didnt like it.

So i picked it up, a Small Canada Goose Como Parka in NAVY. Prefer black but hey, 400 dollars off for a nice coat was better then nothing.

My thoughts of using it after a week.

MUCH warmer then my chateau parka evne thoguh they are rated the same.

Its not surprising since it sa higher down fill plus wool which are 2 great insulators.

because its wool, i found the material much more flexible, not as structured as the regular nylon blends so it doesnt feel liek the coat pulls on you.

slimmer to which im assuming its cause its a 675 down vs. 625.

the interior has a nicer nylon material, softer and kinda luxe/glossy looking.

side hand pockets ahve a microfibre cloth materials vs. fleece thats in the regular CG coats.

its also a couple inches longer over my chateau so which I do like, keeps more of the heat in.

the fur ruff is different to. the fur itself is the same, but canada goose focused on putting shorter pelts on the left and right side and longer pelts as it goes towards the center for a more a symmetrical look.

theirs also a wire in the fur to mold it nicer like the expedition and cidadel.

it has a leather canada goose patch vs. the traditional red/blue/white patch so its not as easily recongizable i suppose.

overall, im pretty happy with it.

was it worth the price? hell no but hey, lifetime warranty and premium quality materials, should last me a LONGGGG time and the wool is supppper nice. it has this storm system thing from loro piana which is water resistent so it does as a good job as nylon.

anyways thats my thoughts!

How many sport coats do/should you own?

I don't work in a formal work environment (teacher) but I wear a sport coat almost every day. I own 6 different ones in various wools, linens and cottons.

How many do you own and in what capacities do you wear them?
